About Us

The Hibernian Hotel has been a fixture of historic Beechworth since the gold rush days of 1868.

Dating back to when horses wore shoes of old and the Kelly Gang roamed the plains of the great divide, the Hibernian Hotel has stood tall taking its place in Beechworth folklore. Built on the traditions of local hospitality, generous spirit and a hint of mischief, the Hibernian Hotel continues blissfully servicing locals and visitors with the same country warmth and relaxed atmosphere.

Your hosts Beryl and Peter Girven welcome you, your family and friends to enjoy and icy cold beer, stunning regional wine, delicious meal and cosy accommodation in the famous and some say infamous North East Victorian town of Beechworth.

Past History

As one of Australia’s best preserved historic towns, Beechworth has enjoyed a colourful history and the Hibernian Hotel has been right in the middle of it. Local legend has it that the hotel hosted the wedding reception of a member of the infamous Kelly Gang and provided accommodation for the Gang at regular intervals.

In 2005, the hotel underwent extensive renovations and a refurbishment that preserved the hotel’s unique history while completely modernising the pub, bistro, function rooms and accommodation facilities.

In 2009, brand new aparments were added to the facility to allow guests to enjoy the modern convenience of self-contained accommodation in the centre of town.
